This model was produced in the same way as the Greater Glasgow Atlantean
but with additional modifications. Obviously the roof was sawn off! The new upper deck side
window frames were made from bent plastic strips and lots of filler. The rear window pillar was left in
place which is correct for this prototype. A new windscreen was added with new etched wipers fitted which
are not the pantograph type. Rear bustle shrouds were also moulded from filler. Although a version
of the Atlantean bustle is available with shrouds, it would require too much attention to look right, is more
expensive and would never match the version I use as the side air intakes are moulded differently.
The panoramic windows were created by removing the appropriate pillars and fitting new glazing.
I tried to produce my own plug type glazing but that did not work. Recently the original windows were removed and
the model fitted with individual flush glazing with the correct hoppers painted on. The excellent etched handrails are produced by Brynkits for the Bristol VR. They required
substantial modification to suit my Atlantean which was made difficult by the fact that they are tough stainless steel
and not brass as anticipated. However, cutting them in half worked fine and the rear part was made from the
left over pieces.
More recent additions include the fitting of a much uprated interior featuring back-to-back seating in the rear,
a new forward ascending staircase, individual seat grab rails and increased detail around the cab area.
All the modifications to the interior were carried out using staples, plastic card, filler and glue.
Sadly of the two Glasgow Atlanteans converted to open top and finished in coach livery, neither to my knowledge
has survived.
